Knocked-Out Tooth
If you've knocked out a tooth, you need to act quickly to save your tooth and preserve your oral health! At McQueen Dental, we will immediately take care of our patients who are experiencing this painful dental emergency.
According to the American Association Of Endodontists (AAE), when you've knocked out a tooth, do the following:
- Carefully pick up your tooth by the crown, not by the root.
- If your tooth is dirty, rinse it gently with water (no soap or scrubbing!)
- Gently push the tooth back into its socket if possible, holding the tooth in place with your finger or by carefully closing your mouth.
- Keep your tooth from drying out. If you can't replace your tooth in its socket, place it in your mouth between your teeth and the inside of your cheek to keep it moist.
- See an emergency dentist within 30 minutes of having your tooth knocked out.
Broken Tooth
Broken teeth aren't just cosmetic issues - they can also cause infections which could compromise your total body health. If you or your child suffers a broken tooth, preserve the rest of the tooth, if possible, and call us right away for further instructions.
Broken Dental Filling
At McQueen Dental, we use only the very best materials for our restorations, but all crowns and fillings still do have specific lifespans. If yours breaks, cracks, or falls off, you must get the restoration repaired as soon as possible. Many teeth can start out with a small break and would only need a simple filling, but the longer treatment is delayed, the bigger the problem becomes for your oral health!
Dental Abscess
A dental abscess is an infection that can not only spread to your healthy teeth and gums, but can transfer bacteria and infection throughout your entire body. If treated immediately, these dental infections are easy to recover from and can be prevented from causing lasting damage to the rest of your mouth.
After treatment, Dr. McQueen will likely prescribe an antibiotic to treat your dental abscess and prevent future complications.
Dental Trauma
The first few moments after an oral accident are vital in determining if your recovery will go smoothly. Dental trauma due to an accident is common and can happen due to motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries, or physical altercations.
